Independent Media

The dominant newspapers, radio stations, television stations and other media are owned by a wealthy minority, people who often do not have the interests of the majority of us at heart. Not only that, the content is often biased, supporting the interests of the wealthiest 1% of the population.  Content may also be selected to maximize ad revenues, rather than to cover the most important issues. Journalists at these big media outlets are often expected to write about many topics and asked to produce very quickly, meaning they are rarely knowledgeable about the topics they are covering or the lived experiences of those most affected by the decisions.

Here are a few of our favourite places to get information about what is really going on. Most are funded independently and/or centre the voices of those most affected.
